Castables

Riverside Refractories offers castables for use in all types of reheat furnaces for a number of applications. Below is a list of our most frequently requested castable products.

  • ALAKAST 55 is a cement-free castable with high spall resistance. This material can be cast or pumped into place. Typical applications are coke ovens, reheat furnace doors, and ladle covers.
  • ALAKAST 60 CFP is a cement free, 60 percent alumina castable designed to be pumped into place. This product has been developed for use in corrosive applications where scale and slag may be present.
  • ALAKAST 60 SR is a low-cement castable designed for high strength and thermal shock resistance. The low cement level and close aggregate sizing requires the materials to be vibration cast.
  • ALAKAST 65 LC-P is a high-alumina, low-cement pumping castable designed for severe service applications. This product is suited to applications requiring high mechanical strength and resistance to molten metal erosion.
  • ALAKAST 65 LC is a high-alumina, low-cement castable designed for severe applications. This product is suited to applications with high mechanical strength and resistance to molten metal erosion. The grain sizing is appropriate for high mass designs.
  • ALAKAST 70 LC is a high-alumina, low-cement castable designed for severe service applications. This product is suited to applications requiring high mechanical strength and resistance to molten metal erosion. The grain sizing is appropriate for high mass designs.
  • ALAKAST 70 LC – SiC is a 70 percent alumina, low-cement castable that has silicon carbide added for non-wetting by molten metal properties. Its high strength and low porosity give it excellent erosion resistance.
  • ALAKAST 85 is a high purity castable designed for applications requiring high strength, abrasion resistance, or tolerance of severe slagging environments.
  • ALAKAST 104 is a cement-free castable designed to be pumped into place and developed to be used as a subhearth for the working hearth in reheat furnaces.
  • ALAKAST 241 is an ultra-low cement castable developed for molten steel contact applications. The very low lime content makes it an excellent refractory for high temperature applications. This castable has high strength and abrasion resistance.
  • ALAKAST 303 is a cement-free high alumina castable designed to be pumped into place. This product has been developed to replace plastic materials in the working hearth, reducing down time.
  • ALAKAST 305 ES is also designed to be pumped into place and is a low-cement, high-alumina caastable. This product has been developed to replace plastic materials in the working hearth, reducing down time.
  • ALAKAST 748 is a cement-free castable designed for use in oxidizing conditions. Its high alumina content and low porosity make it especially suitable for iron contact. A strong material, ALAKAST 748 maintains high strength throughout its effective temperature range.
  • ALAKAST 2800 SR is a reduced-cement castable which combines the working characteristics of conventional castables with the physical properties of a low cement castable. ALAKAST 2800 SR is a high strength material with good abrasion resistant characteristics.
  • ALAKAST 3000 SR is a reduced-cement castable for higher temperature applications. The high purity cement and quality aggregates give this product excellent abrasion resistance, spall resistance and high strength.
  • ALAMAX GS is a high-strength, castable refractory with a service limit of 2400 degrees Fahrenheit (1315 degrees Celsius). Extra strength in this product has been achieved by using a combination of high-strength aggregate and an enhanced refractory cement level. The refractory is designed to have excellent thermal shock characteristics, due to coarse aggregate included in the composition. It is used in general mill and industrial furnace applications.
  • ALAMAX GS-P is a high strength, pumpable refractory with a 2400 F (1315 C) service limit. Extra strength in this product has been achieved by using a combination of high strength aggregate and an enhanced refractory cement level. The refractory is designed to have excellent thermal shock characteristics, due to coarse aggregate included in the composition. It is used in general mill and industrial furnace applications.
  • BLAST KAST® 45 is a 45 percent alumina castable suitable for shotcrete application. A general purpose material, BLAST KAST® 45 has many uses, especially when low rebound and low dust is a factor.
  • BLAST KAST® 60 is a 60 percent alumina product suitable for general maintenance. BLAST KAST® 60 can be cast, pumped, or installed without forms.
  • BLAST KAST® 70 is a high-alumina, pumpable castable designed for severe service applications. This product is suited to applications requiring high mechanical strength and resistance to molten metal erosion.
  • BLAST KAST® 85 is an 85 percent alumina, cement-free product suitable for BLAST KAST® application. It is designed for rapid installation when forming is not practical.
  • BLAST KAST® 90S is a tabular alumina-spinel based castable for use in steel ladles. Its excellent creep resistance makes it ideal for wall sections of the ladle. Application is by BLAST KAST® technique.
  • BLAST KAST® 744 is a cement-free castable designed for blast furnace iron trough working linings. The use of fused alumina grains with SiC additions gives this product excellent hot metal and slag resistance. The unique grain sizing with no cement binder provides high density, excellent hot strength, and abrasion resistance. This product is installed by our BLAST KAST® process.
  • BLAST KAST® 748 is a cement-free castable that is easily installed by casting, pumping, or with Riverside’s BLAST KAST® system. This product is based on fused alumina and SiC. Applications are for blast furnace troughs and runners.
  • RSR Trap Rock Castable is a low-cost castable of high strength, bonded by calcium aluminate cement. This product can be truck mixed in the field.
  • RSR Ceramic Skid Block and Rail is a fused alumina body that offers high strength, excellent abrasion resistance, and stability throughout the working temperature range of a reheat furnace.
